M/M erotic story submissions for Mistress Journals

As everyone is aware, Mistress Journals is currently asking for submissions for Male/Male Erotica to be published in a book in 2011.

I would have to admit that I found it to be a daunting but rewarding challenge. When Gina Kincade first announced the idea, my first thoughts were "no m/m is not an area I could do" but then when I spoke to Gina about it, she pointed out that even if I did not succeed in being chosen for it, the fact that I am trying something new as a writer outside of my "safety net" is an excellent experience.

Taking that into consideration and realizing that Gina was write, I decided to give writing a M/M story. To say that I thought it was going to be a walk in the park was an understatement. I mean how easy is it to write a story about two men together.

Okay so I was wrong, I started it and found that I had the basis of how I wanted it to go but found I got stuck. How does a woman write about the feelings two men can have for each other?

So once again, talking to Gina (please note that at this stage Gina had not read my story due to her being the judge of what was going into the book), she informed me that it really is no different except for the body parts and making it more masculine than it was writing for a f/f or f/m story.

Taking this all on-board I went back to the story which I was now beginning to despair about ever being able to complete yet alone competently. However I bit the bullet and tried again. This time I tried again, lots of false starts, lots of oh what am I doing, who am I kidding and eventually I got it done.

Talking to Gina earlier I inquired how many others were picking up the challenge to broaden their writing within Erotica and I would have to say I was highly disappointed as only 5 or 6 have picked up this wonderful opportunity to be published for the first time and to try a different style of writing.

If we as writers cannot try different areas and only stay in the one type how can we then shown publishers and editors that we are more than capable of writing anything in the Erotica Genre.
